Back to Writing

Yes, I'm back from New York. I'm back from Florida. And starting today, I'm back to writing. Full steam ahead.

Toward that end, I have set a 5000 word per week quota on my Churches, Chickens and ChiChi's manuscript.

Making this quota will produce a completed first draft by mid-November.

Which rules out NaNoWriMo. Yes, I had been contemplating kicking off my newest novel during that time. We'll see what happens with CC&C first, though.

Happy writing. To all of us!

~That Rebel, Olivia

P.S. I just ended up at this really cool website (yes, I'm supposed to be writing!) and thought I'd share:

If you're already setting and sticking to a goal, you don't need NaNoWriMo!

Stick to your goals, but also be realistic. Some weeks you'll be upwards of 5000w, others will be 1000w if you're lucky.

Don't get frustrated or panicked.

You ever play golf? There's something you say to a player -- or yourself -- whenever you make a bad shot, a wormburner, a gopher-knocker, or shank one into the trees and kill a squirrel.

"That's forward progress, bro. You're that much closer to the hole."

So think of every word as just that, even if it's not a long-drive.

Forward progress.

Onward ho. I'm with you. I'm finally (I hope) off-and-running on my next novel, after many weeks of start-stops.

I'm glad you got safely home from your travels and hope you had a great time. Good luck with your writing goal! I'm working on myself to get back into writing....sigh...

I checked out the site you posted-very much trouble there! It has so much info that I could stay there a while :)

Not being a writer, I have absolutely no concept of how ambitious a goal of 5000 words per week is or whether that means words in draft form or finished copy. But I do know that setting goals is important to any endeavor. Best of luck in meeting your writing goals in the following weeks.

Great goals, Olivia. I'm glad you got home safely (and had a wonderful time, I hope).

I want to participate in NaNoWriMo this year, too. First time for everything. :)

Thanks, Mary. The site has some cool stuff, including writing workshops.

Raquel, thank you. I'd been so stuck and getting nothing accomplished. It feels good to write again. I'll let you know about NaNo.

Terry, you're welcome. I signed up for the newsletter, too. I haven't been by your sites in a bit and I see you have some new stuff up. I promise I'll be by soon.

Jenny, thanks! Hope you enjoy the site.

Eric, hello Bro. I had to do something, I was languishing in nada. Notadamnthing. Ugh.

Your appeal to the voices last week kicked something in to drive, so thank you. I had been taking copious notes and, as of yesterday, the notes are becoming pages. Ahhhh. It feels good to write again.

Congratulations on your new work. Will you be giving us any idea as to what it is?

Words Crafter, I, too, had been having a hard time writing. I'm finally unstuck and the goal helped. Yesterday produced a 1000+ word chapter. Yay!

Gail, thank you!

Jules, I never forget to eat, lol. Breathing though...yes, that I must remember.

There were TWO separate attacks in New Smyrna Beach WHILE WE WERE THERE! What are the odds? We saw the helicopter hovering one of the days and wondered what was up. Ugh. Poor peoples.

Kobico, whether you call yourself a writer or not, you have a way with words. In my book, that makes you a writer. Just for the record. :)

Alison, yes, I had a most wonderful time. Thank you so much. Aren't first times grand? It would be my first NaNo, too, should I decide to accept the mission. :)

Good luck making your quote every week. it's a shame you'll miss NaNoWriMo (it'll be my first one this year) but hopefully it means you'll get our manuscript done in record time :D
