Evoking Emotion

Years ago my husband (now ex) introduced me to singer, songwriter Michelle Shocked. Everytime I heard this particular song it would choke me up. I never stopped to think about why.

Recently, when looking for a song I'd heard and fallen in love with (in a commercial, no less), I found out it was Michelle. I included the song, When I Grow Up, in a post a while back.

Yesterday I stopped to listen to Anchorage, the 'choke me up' song. I watched the video for the first time. And bawled. Yep. My face was wet and I was boo hooing to beat the band. Why? No particular reason that I could fathom.

Except one.

Michelle has masterfully woven EMOTION in to this beautiful song. Never once does she hint at love, longing, regret, grief or acceptance. But every word is steeped in these powerful emotions.

Here, my angels, is a word master.

Please give her a listen. First, close your eyes and listen to the words. Then listen again watching the video. Adding the visual increases the emotional impact. But it's there, no matter.

I want to be like Michelle.

Have an awesome weekend. I'm heading off to Villa Rica's Gold Rush Days.

Be Shocked. Enjoy Michelle.

Well, thank you for making me cry, lol!

This made me cry over past good times but we have we to make new good times.

Someone once said, if you don't feel the emotion while writing, no reader will feel it either.

Have a great weekend:)

I too had a few tears at this,
We all go through rough times but it's the future that is important. one can't alter the past but we can shape the future.

Hope your week-end is as happy as possible.

Yvonne.

Funny that sometimes it's what you ~don't~ say that's the most powerful.

Olivia, I think you're terribly homesick!

I loved the words and the folksy sound the song has. It's honest, homey, warm and friendly.

It's easy to see she misses her friend and that life is moving on....

....and I think that's what connects you so much, so powerfully to this song. It's found your tender spot, your longing to go home....

Passages.

It is truly evocative song weaving the threads of the seasons of life, the dry leaves of memories and the mournful echoes of the laughter of absent friends.

Have a great weekend. I am working alone at the blood center this weekend. Lots of work and one me.

It occurs to me that my blood center might be cheap sons of ... the South.

May laughter be your constant companion these next two days. And may this 11th of September be filled with love not hate, Roland

It is a nice song. It didn't hit me in the same way as it did you. I felt a bittersweet feeling that made me think of combinations of happy memories and people in my past who are no longer part of my present. The song reminded me of passing seasons and time gone by, but a present that needs tending to and a future that keeps coming like a train that I keep missing.

Thank you for sharing the song.

Good song.

Sometimes, things just hit a person the right way for no reason. But I also hope I'm evoking the appropriate emotion in my readers.

You know you're a sweetheart, right? How nice of you to help Yvonne out.

Don't you just love those musical epiphanies? And yours seem so meaningful and rewarding.

Great song.

Wow, it's been years since I've heard Michelle Shocked. This song doesn't make me cry, but it does make me nostalgic for friends I haven't seen in awhile.

...your emotion comes through not as words, but as a painting, this one leaking tears over canvass. Sad, but wonderfully penned.

Olivia, wanted you to know that you were included in my latest post, a celebration of sorts...
Hope you enjoy:)

Well, Olivia, we finally got to meet. And it looks like in the future, we'll have at least one great party to look forward to.

Have a great week. I slept most of the day to Gypsy's great disgust. No nudging by her would get me up.

She has four bowls of cruchies, three bowls of water : she's safe for me to snooze in a day!

Have a great tomorrow, today's already had its say, Roland

Hi you guys, thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts. I was away for the weekend, back in my home town of Villa Rica. Much is shifting in my life, seems I'm ever in a constant state of flux.

Thank you, thank you for always being here.
