Passing It On

The following is from one of those email letters that we periodically receive. Most of them don't get forwarded. Lord knows I rarely do. But this one touched me. So. Instead of forwarding it to the people I love, I'm sending it to you as a blog post.

The author is unknown. But whoever you are, if you're out there, your poem is beautiful. And so true.

Here goes:

To realize
The value of a sister/brother
Ask someone
Who doesn't have one.

To realize
The value of ten years:
Ask a newly
Divorced couple.

To realize
The value of four years:
Ask a graduate.

To realize
The value of one year:
Ask a student who
Has failed a final exam.

To realize
The value of nine months:
Ask a mother who gave birth to a stillborn.

To realize
The value of one month:
Ask a mother
Who has given birth to a premature baby..

To realize
The value of one week:
Ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize
The value of one minute:
Ask a person
Who has missed the train, bus or plane.

To realize
The value of one-second:
Ask a person
Who has survived an accident.

Time waits for no one.
Treasure every moment you have.
You will treasure it even more when
You can share it with someone special.

To realize the value of a friend or family member:
LOSE ONE.

The origin of this letter is unknown,
But it brings good luck to everyone who passes it on.

Remember....

Hold on tight to the ones you love!

This one's for Jules and The Words Crafter:

I never get any of the great emails, Olivia. All I get are from Turanistan, saying, "You have won One Gazillion dracma (40 cents American.) To receive your limitless fortune, please email your bank account number and visa card number to this emai address."

Thanks for sharing, Roland

I've never read or received this, thanks. I've actually experienced many of these, either myself or with my beloved family members. Profound.

Thank you thank you for the Joplin!!!!

OMG, forget the poem, are you reading my mind? I had the exact song ready to send to you. :) Just think of what we lost by losing her.

The poem was good as well but it's not JJ. Can you see me chair dancing?

Why do I always have to get the chain e-mails from some ousted Nigerian royalty asking for money?

Thank you for posting the Janis video! I'd forgotten how much I love that song. When I was a little girl I wanted to look just like Janis Joplin. I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world lol.

Aww, this is one of the best forward-e-mails I've seen! I tend to get the ones that Roland is talking about.

Right now, being pregnant is making me hyper-aware of time in a way I haven't been before. I'm counting the seconds between kicks, heartbeats at the doctor's office and the months, weeks, and days until full term. Every little thing I do and every minute spent in the womb is vitally important to this growing person. It's very strange to have to think this way all the time, but it's a great way to put things in perspective.
