Everybody's Talking At Me

I'm listening to my myspace playlist. It's the one I compiled last November while selling off my worldly goods and packing what was left for Georgia. My new leading lady is facing a move so I'm getting in to the mood. I need to remember what that franticity felt like.

And if the music doesn't get this scene kick started? I'm screwed. I feel like Harry when whoozit put a spell on his broomstick and it was hopping and leaping all over the place while he was barely hanging on. Or like a reluctant toddler with my mouth glued shut refusing that bite of peas.

But back to my story. Myspace. I apparently hadn't been over there in months because there was a message in my inbox from April that read:

I think I knew you in the 5th grade (no... really!). I use myspace as ******* so I'm sure you wouldn't want to add me, so I'll just say hello and I enjoyed reading your blog page. I always wonder how people I knew as a child turned out. I went to Villa Rica Elem. as a wee lad. And if you are who I think you are, I also know you from _______ _______s' birthday party (I was on the other end of the bottle..lol)

Thank you for your time and I really enjoyed seeing your Picture.

Okay. First off, this was really sweet. Second. I don't remember being in to guys when I was eleven (euuww) but I do remember this party and I vaguely recall something or another. But my last social media re-hookup didn't work out so well. So call me leery.

Then, whilest reading Fifth Grade's letter, I got flashed by Texas Boy:

 "ur sexy babe"

Really? Ur sexy babe? While I am flattered that you think I'm sexy, your approach is somewhat crass. And you can't spell. So no thanks.

Gardner West, in case you're still taking notes, I'm insulted. On the other hand, if I was interested in this dude, hot damn. It's all in the context.

Here's some Nilsson for you, Gardner. Straight from '69. Your stomping grounds. I hope you enjoy.

That's why I never did MySpace and seldom check in on my account on Facebook. With my strange luck, it is not wise.

Hope your tomorrow goes well. Have you tried listening to www.pandora.com? You can tailor an internet radio station that will play just tunes you like and introduce you to artists who play similarly.

I believe the first 40 hours are free with occasional commercials.

Check it out. It's how I discovered Jesse Cook. Roland

I have met up with some old friends through Facebook, which has been a lot of fun. No boys from the other end of a bottle, though. :)

I hope the music frees your creative juices!

Cute story :) I haven't joined FaceBook or MySpace yet. Maybe one of these days.

I do facebook, but sparingly. It's boring. Once you see some pictures of your old friends, it's a yawnfest.

All the other sites are for hooking up, and I'm already hooked up, so no need to looky-for-da-hooky.

I'm Texas Boy, by the way.

Okay, for the record. Last year I set up a playlist on imeem.com, a site where I could select exactly what I wanted to listen to for free. Or download for a small price. I was, and still am, particularly partial to that playlist. Then myspace bought imeem. So if I want to listen to my free playlist, I go to myspace.

Having said that...

Roland, having the creative license to pick was/is what I liked about imeem/myspace. I have listened to Pandora. I actually am very partial to aolradio.com. It's free and the one place I've found that has Southern Rock as a category (I think from XM). That's my go to. They also have several categories of blues which, again, are hard to find. And jazz. Etc. BTW, I liked Jesse, thanks for sharing him!

Susan, I think he was referring to spin the bottle, lol, and I can promise you I was a young eleven so not much going on there. I think my creative juices are gonna have to flow in to plotting this time. Weird and wild. First novel is a pantser.

Jemi, I promise, both can be big time sucks. :) I just use myspace for the music, period.

Eric, no lie, you flashed in my head when I saw the name Texas Boy. 'Cause you are that. So you got me for a split second with your last line. You're a Texas devil, for sure. BTW, you must've punched a button or something because I felt compelled to say that I'm not on those sites for hookups AND the hookup that happened by chance didn't work out.

God, I need to shut up don't I? Protesting too much and all...

Hey Olivia, Thanks for clarifying your feelings about babe, Babe;)

And thanks for the music. Great tune!

I signed up for Twitter but I haven't used it yet. One day.

Oh, I took the test you posted. I flunked, I'm not that sensitive. I guess that's why I'm a PI and not a writer. Oh well. Nice to see you, kid:)

Can you believe I got kicked off facebook? I was snooping around websites for democrats and republicans. I think one of the two didn't like my books and complained. I was just trying to be funny. Humor can be a such a difficult thang.

The complaint was something about pushing commercial interests. I have seen facbook sites dedicated solely to commercial interests, so I'm still dazed and confused on the matter.

My message to the politicos is, "I have upped my standards, up yours!"

I have a new "T" shirt. It reads, "All stressed up, and no one to choke." No hooking up for me though. How do I get unhooked? OK, I've had my blog fix for the day. There could be worse addictions. I'm better now.

Wally,

You can get kicked off FB?

=:O

I've been kicked off so many websites I lost count, mostly because of my political views. Now I try not to vent too much online.

See, if you're a writer, and you hit a political forum, you will stomp and mangle the opposition with your well-crafted prose.

And they don't like it too much.

Then they complain that you're not playing fair -- because you are winning -- and you get banned.

Go figger.

Um, a very strange post that's making me smile. I thought I was the only person who attracted weirdness! I don't do myspace, either, but I have a facebook just to keep up with people. I check in for about five minutes a day and 'like' or comment or just read...sadly, many of the people I went to school with are too far away in more than one way. Did that make sense? However, my realtor and I were friends in elementary school and she's still fabulous!

Oh, how I love you! I've got another blog coming soon! (Tonight, maybe? or tomorrow...) I moved this weekend and am exhausted but moving right along. Bed set up, bookshelf and dvds OCD arranged. Kitchen, well getting there.
Thank you for continuing to write. I have been taking pauses to read during this past week of suffering the pains of procrastination. It helped me feel connected to my life.
And, I think you should seek out Mr. Other-End-Of-The-Bottle. Maybe his technique has improved! :)

Thanks Olivia, it was meant in a nice way. Sometimes what we mean to say and the way it comes out are not quite as intended. Wow, now I'm known as " Mr. other end of the bottle ". Not looking to give the ole bottle another spin (lol) just wanted to say hi. Somehow I don't think my wife would approve anyway. I do understand about being cautious on Myspace. A few years ago I found an old friend on there and I should have just said "cool" and moved on, but I learned a good lesson. I'm in Texas also, but I'm not Texas Boy :o). I do enjoy reading your blogs about North Georgia they sorta make me home sick.

Rondelia1, I emailed you back on Myspace and checked a few times to see if you answered. I was trying to place you in the cobwebs of my memory.

As I said in my post, I thought what you said was sweet. I'm sorry if my post made you think otherwise. I'm really glad you enjoy my blog. Please stop by any time. And feel free to comment. All comments are appreciated. :)

No offense taken at all. As 11 or 12 year old good Southern boys, we planned for a couple of weeks to get ready for the girls to arrive! I don't think any of us had a clue. I returned your email on myspace and included my name and a little bit about what I do. Safe travels and enjoy that North Georgia Fall. I miss the fall most of all.
